Our Biochar is produced by us at our nursery using locally and responsibly sourced clean wood chip. Our biochar is medium coarse (not fines) and is posted dry.
We recommend using it at a ratio of 1 part charged biochar to 10 part compost.
Biochar acts as a porous sponge to retain water and nutrients, supports beneficial microorganisms, and helps neutralize soil acidity
How to charge Biochar Step 1 : Create a tea using water, a liquid feed like seaweed or tomorite and compost.
Step 2 : Optional, add additional nutrients, molasses, liquid kelp to the tea.
Step 3 : Mix the dry biochar with the liquid at a ratio of 1-part biochar to 10-part tea.
Step 4 : Let it charge, leave it covered (not air tight) for a few weeks, stirring it weekly. The biochar will absorb the tea and provide a habitat for microbes.
Step 5 : Mix at a ratio of 1-part charged biochar to 10-parts potting compost.
